PDI Coach-Guided Assessment

PDI Assessment

Before You Begin

  • Athlete must NOT stretch or warm up before physical screens
  • Ask injury history — stop any screen causing pain or discomfort
  • 3 attempts on each physical test; best effort recorded
  • Complete physical screens before moving to golf skills
EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST
Athlete's driver, 6-iron, putter, wedge(s)
Towel + yoga mat (optional)
Stopwatch (timer built in)
Measuring tape (60 ft)
Launch monitor + tablet/computer
Target rings: 3 ft, 6 ft, 12 ft diameter
Wet chalk markers + alignment stick
Clinometer or app
Net + hitting mat
⚡ Physical — 1 of 4
OVERHEAD
DEEP SQUAT

Execution — 3 Attempts, Best Recorded

  1. Feet shoulder-width apart (big toe under armpit)
  2. Golf club on top of head, hands adjusted so elbows = 90°
  3. Extend arms overhead, then descend into deep squat
  4. Get hips as low as possible while keeping bar overhead

Watch For (ground up)

  1. Feet — do they move? Foot flare? Heels rise?
  2. Knees — do they cave in?
  3. Hips — do they drop below knee level? (thigh parallel to ground)
  4. Bar — does it come forward past the toe line?
SELECT SCORE
⚡ Physical — 2 of 4
ACTIVE STRAIGHT
LEG RAISE

Setup

  1. Athlete on back, arms at sides (palms up), feet together, toes up
  2. Rolled towel under back of both knees
  3. Mark midpoint line with driver held vertical at halfway between kneecap and hip bone
  4. Athlete pushes back of both legs into towel

Execution — 3 Attempts Each Leg

  1. Keep both legs completely locked out, toes pulled toward shins
  2. Raise one leg while keeping the down leg pressed into towel throughout
  3. Record compensation AND ankle bone height at first compensation

Common Compensations

  • Foot flare of the down leg
  • Bending of either knee at any time
  • Hip shift to assist the raise

⚡ Physical — 3 of 4
HIP BRIDGE

Execution

  1. On back, arms crossed over chest, heels directly under knees
  2. Raise hips — straight line from knee → hip → shoulder
  3. Lift one foot off ground, knee toward chest, knee ≈ 90°, toes up
  4. Hold as long as possible. One posture warning allowed — time ends when they break posture a second time
  5. Record each leg separately
⚡ Ask where they feel the tension — DON'T suggest where. Glutes = king. Note if they're compensating with hamstrings/back.

BROAD JUMP

Setup

  1. Tape measure ≥ 10 ft on flat ground; athlete jumps parallel to it
  2. Toes on the start line
  3. 3 attempts — must STICK the landing. Fall = scratch (still counts as attempt)
  4. Measure from heel closest to start line

Watch For

  • Does athlete sequence properly, using arms?
  • Do they land "softly" — good ground use = good power foundation

WARM UP &
6-IRON BASELINE

Athlete Warmup — 10–15 Minutes

  • Treat this assessment like a tournament — full routine every shot
  • No practice shots once assessment begins
  • Start warm up with 6-iron — gather baseline height

Recording 6-Iron Baseline

  1. Use at least 3 strikes representative of their stock shot
  2. Ask: "Is that your average? How was contact?"
  3. Do NOT average misses — outlier shots skew data
  4. Record average carry distance AND peak height for use in 9 Ball Flights

DRIVER

Parameters — BOTH must be met for a count

  • Proximity: Ball lands ≤ 20 yards offline (40 yd total width)
  • Distance: Carry ≥ 80% of 6-iron carry ( yds)
⚠️ 20.1 yd offline = FAIL. 20.0 = pass. No rounding up. Hold the line.

FLIGHTS

4 Parameters — ALL must be met

  • Proximity: ≤ 10 yds offline (20 yd width)
  • Carry: ≥ 80% of 6-iron carry ( yds)
  • Curve: shaped = ≥ 3 yds | straight = ≤ 2 yds
  • Height: see ranges below — based on athlete's avg

CONTROL

Setup

  1. 3-yd ring (3 ft diameter) — center at 9 ft from hitting area
  2. 10-yd ring (6 ft diameter) — center at 30 ft
  3. 20-yd ring (12 ft diameter) — center at 60 ft
  4. Ball must LAND in ring (doesn't have to stay). Edge = counts
  5. Athlete selects club(s) of choice

PUTTING

Setup

  1. Cup on practice green with 1–2% slope (use clinometer)
  2. Mark 4 colored dots at 3 ft, spacing 90° around cup
  3. Mark 10 ft dots at 45° offset from 3 ft dots
  4. 30 ft: 2 uphill + 2 downhill

Scoring Rules

  • 3 ft & 10 ft: Must be holed to count
  • 30 ft: Must end within 3 ft of cup center
